It’s pretty hard to get away from back-to-school everything these days and with the Sales Tax Holiday coming up you might be getting your list ready.

For a lot of families in Richmond barely making ends meet, back-to-school shopping can be financially daunting.

When students can’t afford to buy supplies, the teachers often dip into their own pockets to help out. You can help Richmond City teachers and students by purchasing some extra items to help stock The Teacher Store at Norrell Elementary School; donated school supplies are available to those students who would otherwise go without.

Volunteers are also needed to craft motivational bookmarks to help RPS youth start the school year off with inspiration!

Sign up and get a list of needed items here through the Hands On DIY Volunteering website.

More details on how to help:

How To:

  1. Express Interest here. Hands On will send you instructions and plan for your delivery.
  2. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must express interest. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.
  3. Plan the time and place to DIY.
  4. Once you’ve expressed interest, complete instructions will be sent to you. We ask that you donate a minimum of 10 school supply items and create 5 bookmarks. Contributions over the minimum amount are welcomed, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project.

Confirmed participants will receive 3 hours for submitting materials prior to 4:00pm, Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
